Ryedale Vineyards are set on south facing slopes at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds and is probably the most northerly commercial vineyard in England. The vineyard is close to Malton, the foodie capital of Yorkshire.

Established in 2006

Ryedale was first planted in 2006 in the village of Westow, with a second site at Howsham established in 2008.

Low Impact Farming

Vines are grown using a low spray approach; farming methods have a low impact on the countryside. As at almost all vineyards in the UK, harvesting is done by hand.

​There are also orchards on two sites which include some heritage varieties such as Howgate Wonder which are used to produce cider and apple juice

Wildlife among the vines

There is a rich and varied variety of wildlife, flora and fauna, in particular lowland broadleaved woodland, wood pasture, veteran trees, limestone and neutral grasslands and fen meadows. Species include brown hare, lapwing, tree sparrow and barn owl as well as several local rarities such as knapweed, broomrape and baneberry.

Ryedale Vineyards have worked closely with the RSPB and other groups to ensure that bird life is not just protected but enhanced by their activities.
